Serving When Others Are Retiring

Mar 31, 2016

Jim and Susan Oetter CPAt a time when others might consider retiring, Jim and Susan Oetter sold the home they built and moved to a country halfway around the world. They had to learn a new language, adjust to a different culture, and live without most of the conveniences many take for granted here. Why? They responded to God’s call to go to Mozambique through the International Mission Board to help reach people who have never heard the gospel. Now they live in the city of Mocuba and are working with the Manyawa people group.

Recently, Jim worked with volunteers from Kentucky who came to help dig wells in a project sponsored by Baptist Global Response and a church in Arizona. This gave Jim the opportunity to share the gospel with the chief official of a village where a church is being planted. Improved wells not only provide clean water that prevents disease but also open the door to share the Living Water of Jesus Christ. It is a great picture of working together!

Jim and Susan are able to fulfill their God-given call because of the support they receive from Southern Baptists in Arizona and across the country through the Cooperative Program. The result is people hear the gospel, churches are planted, and lives are changed! That is because they responded rather than retired and Southern Baptists gave rather than kept it for themselves!

Jim and Susan Oetter are the CP.

Because you and your church give, You are the CP.
