Multiplication Pipeline aims to grow leaders

One thousand churches working together across the state to change the lives of individuals, families and communities by 2028 — that’s the vision Arizona Southern Baptist leaders have cast.

Monty Patton, North American Mission Board Phoenix Send City missionary, urges Arizona Southern Baptists to catch that vision. “This does not happen by accident,” he said, “but by intentionality.”

To help train churches and church members how they can help reach that goal, the North American Mission Board has a new tool, The Multiplication Pipeline.

“The purpose of the Multiplication Pipeline is to help churches find, train and deploy leaders in their church,” Patton said. “Most churches lament that they don’t have enough leaders. … This tool can help a church lead their people to be disciples and live their life on mission.”

The Multiplication Pipeline is an online learning tool to help develop missional leaders and future church planters. This training provides development through coaching, reflection and self-study. With more than 20 missional principles, there is enough content for up to three years of training for leaders.

The goal is to raise up and train leaders from within the local church — “regular” church members who might not have realized their leadership potential.

On May 2, NAMB provided a one-day, multisite training lab to help pastors and missionaries get started in using the Multiplication Pipeline in their own local contexts.

In all three venues — Mountain View Baptist Church in Tucson, the AZSBC office and Light in the Desert in Mesa — about 30 pastors and leaders learned about and discussed the value of discipleship and leadership development, Patton said.

“Our hope is that all Southern Baptist churches in Arizona embrace this vision of intentional multiplication by using tools like the Multiplication Pipeline,” he said.
