Book Corner: You Picked the Wrong Stagecoach by Rik Danielsen

Oct 27, 2021

Rik Danielsen is retired from active duty as a pastor and director of missions.

What is this book about?
This is a collection of 12 western short stories, including one written by my wife, Carolyn. Ten of the stories are based in Arizona. Nine of the stories are from the Old West, and three take place in Cochise County in the 21st century. They are the stories of both men and women who faced the struggle of trying to survive in a harsh environment and often had to fight their way out of terrible situations in order to emerge victorious. I have also included two very short sermons, which I preached at Cowboy Action Matches a few years ago.

What do you want your readers to gain by reading your book?
These stories can provide a time to unwind from the stresses of the day. All of us need to spend some time living in an imaginary world where good triumphs over evil and heroes and heroines find each other. It would be my hope that these stories could provide a sense of adventure and romance for the reader.

Why did you write this book?
I’ve been a preacher of the gospel for more than 48years. I hope my sermons are known for two things: solid biblical teaching and an effective use of illustrations. My favorite illustrations are stories that people can relate to. I wrote this book because I’m a storyteller. I grew up watching men like Roy Rogers, Wyatt Earp, Ben Cartwright and Rooster Cogburn fight off the bad guys and win the girl’s heart. I wanted to tell my own stories from both the Old and New West.

Who do you hope will read this book?
This book has been written for adults who enjoy good fiction. It’s not “G” rated, but it does not contain any swearing or pornographic scenes. I’ve gotten really good reviews from both men and women.

Where can this book be purchased?
It is available in paperback and Kindle from Amazon and directly from the publisher. The publisher sells it for 20% off of the MSRP and provides free shipping, www.warner.house.
