Book Corner: My Devoted Response: A Devotional Guide on Worship by Austin Ryan

May 2, 2023

Austin Ryan leads Worship Catalyst, a ministry built to mentor and train worship leaders, and is co-pastor of Common Ground Online.

What is this book about?
This devotional book explains what the Bible says about worship by creatively unpacking 24 scriptures on the subject.

What do you want your readers to gain by reading your book?
I want the reader to understand what the Bible really says about worship, and then live a life of worship every day while connecting more deeply to Christ during church services. And I hope they will enjoy the journey, feeling connected to the funny and meaningful stories in each devotion.

Why did you write this book?
I wrote this book because church leaders often want to increase the “culture” of worship in their churches. There are several things that go into that culture building. One of them is that the congregation needs to understand what the Bible says about worship. In working with hundreds of churches over the past 16 years, we have seen that the vast majority of people who attend churches don’t have a strong grasp on the subject. This lack of biblical understanding leads to uninspired praise at church and a weak life of worship throughout the week. My Devoted Response is built in such a way that in four weeks, working through six devotions per week, every congregation member can understand what the Bible says about worship. Ideally, the pastor would make this a month-long, church-wide focus, preaching sermons on the subject while the congregation engages with the book.

Who do you hope will read this book?
This is not a PhD, seminary-level book. It’s for every person who attends church and strives to understand what their devoted response in worship to God could and should look like. It is attainable, story-driven and written for all ages.
