Mending Broken Lives
Mar 27, 2017
A parent aide with Arizona Baptist Children’s Services & Family Ministries (ABCS) was working with Derrick*, a young, single father. Derrick’s daughter had been removed by the Arizona Department of Child Safety, which contracts with ABCS to help parents meet court-mandated benchmarks in order to reunify their family.
Going through parenting curriculum with the parent aide helped Derrick see the true impact of fatherhood.
“I’ll be the first man in my daughter’s life,” he said. “I’ll be her example of what to accept from men when she’s older.” Derrick became more aware of his actions and was motivated to be a proper role model.
Parent aides meet families in times of crisis and separation but can speak life into parents and impact generations. In addition to teaching parenting skills and helping parents establish a safe home for their children, parent aides also regularly have the opportunity to pray with clients, offer spiritual and emotional support, teach biblical truths and share the gospel.
Allison is another ABCS parent aide. She says the best part of her job is sharing hope with clients and seeing the lost find Jesus. She says of her time as a parent aide, “I have met parents who have never set foot in church, who allow me to pray with them and help them find a church near where they live.”
Your gifts through the Cooperative Program support the work of parent aides like Allison with families like Derrick’s. Thank you for joining ABCS in their mission to provide hope and care to hurting children and families through Christ-centered ministries.
Derrick is the CP.
Because you and your church give, You are the CP.
